For such a remote, tiny fishing town in the very South West of England, St Ives has produced a huge legacy of artists from Alfred Wallis to Barbara Hepworth, Patrick Heron, Terry Frost, Sandra Blow, Roger Hilton and many more. And now Danny Fox can be added to that list. A self-taught artist who describes himself as just ‘going for it’ he is fast making a name in the art world. I love his work and hope you do too…

The above image refers to the fact that Cornwall was once a tin mining community. Now everyone digs holes on its beaches instead.
I think there are hints of Bill Traylor in some of Fox’s work, but he also admits to being greatly influenced by Matisse and Gaugin …

Danny has worked in the London studio of Sue Webster and Tim Noble, but more recently returned to Cornwall after trying to give up drinking and moderating his night life. He was a resident in Patrick Heron’s studio in St Ives for a few months.

For those of you who would like to find out more about Fox I found a wonderful interview that he gave last year with Studio. I’ll leave you the link after this brilliant little video. Enjoy…
Thanks for reading and here’s the link to Danny’s interview.
